Travel Information
Tangier is a vibrant city located at the crossroads of Europe and Africa, offering various convenient travel options by air, sea, and land. Below are the different ways you can reach the city for COFMER’05.
By Air
Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport (TNG)
Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport is the main international gateway to the city, located just 14 km from the ENSA of Tangier (the conference venue). The airport is serviced by several major airlines, offering both domestic and international flights.
International Flights
Tangier is directly connected to major cities across Europe, North Africa, and beyond. Frequent flights operate from cities such as Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, London, Amsterdam, and Casablanca. Additionally, direct flights from Nantes to Rabat and Casablanca operate several times per week, providing convenient access for attendees traveling from France. There are also direct flights from other countries, including Canada, ensuring broad international connectivity.
Domestic Flights
Tangier is easily accessible via domestic flights from key Moroccan cities such as Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, and Agadir.
Upon arrival, you can reach the conference venue by taxi or rental car. Taxis are readily available outside the airport, and the journey to the venue takes around 20-30 minutes.
By Train
Morocco’s high-speed train (Al Boraq)
Morocco’s high-speed train (Al Boraq) connects Tangier with major cities in Morocco :
- Casablanca to Tangier: The high-speed train takes approximately 2 hours.
- Rabat to Tangier: A 1 hour and 20-minute journey.
- Marrakech to Tangier: A combination of high-speed and regular train services, with a total journey time of approximately 4.5 hours.
Trains are modern, comfortable, and offer free Wi-Fi. The Tangier Ville train station is about 1km from the conference venue. You can easily reach the venue by taxi from the station.

Tickets can be purchased online via ONCF or at the station.
By Ferry
Tangier is easily accessible from southern Spain via regular ferry services across the Strait of Gibraltar. Ferries operate between:
- Tarifa (Spain) to Tangier Ville: The ferry takes about 1 hour. Tangier Ville Port is located in the city center, approximately 1.5 km from the conference venue.
- Algeciras (Spain) to Tangier Med: The ferry takes around 1.5 hours. Tangier Med is located 40 km from the city center, but there are shuttle buses and taxis available to bring you to Tangier.

Tickets can be booked in advance through ferry companies like FRS or Inter Shipping.
By Car
If you prefer driving to Tangier, you can take advantage of Morocco’s extensive highway system. Highways connect Tangier with other major cities, including Casablanca, Rabat, and Marrakech. Car rentals are available at the airport, train station, and throughout the city.
- Driving from Casablanca: 3.5 hours via the A1 highway.
- Driving from Rabat: 2.5 hours via the A1 highway.
Parking at the Venue
The conference venue at ENSA Tangier offers on-site parking for attendees.
Public Transportation in Tangier
Tangier is well-served by local buses, trams, and taxis. For short trips around the city, petit taxis (small blue taxis) are a common and affordable option. Ensure that the driver uses the meter or agree on a fare before starting your journey.
Buses
Local buses are available throughout the city and can be used to reach the venue. Bus schedules and routes are accessible via the ALSA Tangier website.
Shuttles
Shuttle buses are available from Tangier Med Port to the city center. The train station (Tangier Ville) also offers connectivity to key locations.
Moroccan Dirham (MAD)
Language
Arabic and French are widely spoken.
Weather
Pleasant in April, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 22°C.
